Morning VPK Program

VPK classes are offered in the morning from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We are going to continue our Montessori approach to learning and teaching, which is characterized by a positive, loving environment, a carefully planned classroom, hands-on and self-correcting materials, care of the environment, others, and self. Instruction is individualized so children can progress at their own pace. The classroom curriculum includes science, geography, music, art, social and physical development, spiritual development, and basic skills.

Students visit the school library weekly. A story time begins each visit, and classroom topics are discussed and expanded upon. Students also have the opportunity to check out a library book.

A weekly, group Music Time incorporates movement and steady beats, stimulating brain development and eye-hand coordination. Singing and musical activities promote reading and language skills, emotional awareness and expression, inhibitive control, and following directions. A portion of the program is dedicated to the introduction of symphonic music and instruments, enhanced by a field trip to the Tiny Tots Symphony.

Computer classes are offered on a bi-weekly basis. Developmentally appropriate lessons are created to introduce students to basic computer skills and concepts. Additionally, classroom learning is reinforced through a variety of activities and programs.

Chapel is led weekly by the St. Margaret's Rector. Students experience and learn the love of Jesus through stories, prayer, and music in the beautiful chapel built by Margaret Fleming.
