Meet Kym Hughes: Executive Director of Camp Weed and the Cerveny Conference Center

Having more than 15 years experience in the hospitality industry, Hughes started her CVB career in Valdosta, GA in convention and group sales. Hughes took her first Executive Director position in Statesboro and was delighted to be offered the grand opportunity to build the Sandy Springs CVB, known as Sandy Springs Hospitality & Tourism. From research and development of the product to branding and marketing strategies, Hughes did a great job of building a highly successful CVB and team. However, a death in her family brought about an important career change.

After her father's death in 2015, Kym began looking for a career opportunity in the North Florida area because she knew that her mother would one day want to live in North Florida. Kym discovered an opening for an Executive Director at Camp Weed and the Cerveny Conference Center, in Live Oak, Florida. So, she sent her resume in and, after four interviews, Kym was hired. Kim felt God leading her path when, during her interviews at Camp Weed and the Cerveny Conference Center, staff members told her, "We're praying for you to be hired." Hearing this from all of the staff made her heart full.

Camp Weed and the Cerveny Conference Center are located on 520 acres.  There are 33 buildings on those 520 acres of God's nature.  Kym says, "It's a small city. We have a water plant, kitchens, lodging, a registration building, Mandi's Chapel, recreational areas and more."

The programs hosted on-site include: Cursillo, Happenings, New Beginnings, Bishop's Institute Educational Programs, Summer Camp, and even, quilting events.

Kym smiles and shares, "The staff and I are a team. We understand each other. Everyone who works here loves their jobs and the Center. We all love the Lord, and feel that we are working here as a service to God. "

Kym lives onsite, in the Director's House, with her beloved 91-pound dog. The Director's House is warm home, a place where God is so vibrant. It's a happy place and God is thriving by that home. Kim believes that God's powerful presence draws people through the Center's gates.

At this time, Kym is in a phase of many large projects due to deferred maintenance. She looks forward to strategically planning for future growth and to planning projects for the benefit of the property and the visitors who rarely want to leave.

Kym adds, "We're excited about transitioning our youth campus campers into young adults who will enjoy our on-site educational programs that will benefit them throughout their lives. We welcome churches in our Diocese to think of ways that they can use our facilities throughout the year - youth retreats, confirmations, women's retreats, church staff training, annual picnics, chili cook-offs, sporting events, soccer and baseball tournaments… the options are limitless. We offer a beautiful, natural space with exciting opportunities for fellowship and fun.

Lastly, Kym shares, "The most rewarding part of my job is welcoming our churches to this beautiful place located in the heart of our Diocese."
