Communications - Bookstores in Our Diocese

Where Are The Episcopal Diocese Of Florida's Christian Bookstores?

1. Christ Church, PVB Bookstore

400 San Juan Dr, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082

The mission of The Bookstore at Christ Episcopal Church is to provide Christian resources to enhance and nurture the spiritual lives of Christ Church members and the community. When visiting the bookstore, you will find books for spiritual renewal, daily devotions, journeying through grief, theological studies, prayer books, and several versions of the bible for adults and children.  They also feature a wide selection of youth and children's spiritual development books.  While the internet is steadily becoming the most common source of information, books continue to be purchased and enjoyed in all age groups. This bookstore is a member of the Episcopal Booksellers Association.  This membership provides good networking with other Christian bookstores and product awareness.  Recommendations from customers for book titles and gifts are methods for updating stock and suggestions are greatly appreciated.  Although primarily a bookstore, this bookstore offers spiritual gift items, as well.  The bookstore carries cards for all occasions, along with Baptismal, Confirmation, and Episcopal gifts.  They also carry wall crosses made from driftwood and seashell, a variety of beaded jewelry with crosses, and small gift items under $20. Proceeds from bookstore sales are donated to local literacy programs.

3. St. John's Cathedral Bookstore

256 E Church St, Jacksonville, FL 32202

St. John's Cathedral operates a bookstore in the reception area. A large selection of books and giftware are available. Books used in book studies are also ordered for easy pick up. This bookstore also supports a variety of exceptional non-profits through sales of merchandise and through promoting the missions of these non-profits. These missions range from feeing victims of slave trade to raising money for Haiti to supporting domestic abuse survivors and more. Dean of the St. John's Cathedral, The Rev. Katherine Moorehead has written several books and you'll find her books here in the bookstore.

Kathryn Bissette, a member of St. John's Cathedral for 13 years, has run the bookstore for five years with the help of volunteer Judy Maur. Ms. Bissette is also a member of the Episcopal Booksellers Association. Usually on Fridays, during the Clara White luncheons, she sets the bookstore up there as a general outreach for the Cathedral. This ministry's proceeds support St. Mary's Church in Springfield, Fair Trade Enterprises, Beyond Borders, Rethreaded, Made by Survivors, and Thistle Farms.

Bookstore Hours

The bookstore is open on weekdays and on Sundays before and after services. Please call the church office before your visit to check on bookstore volunteer availability.

We need more volunteers for the bookstore, so if you are interested in helping out, please contact Kathryn Bissette at khbissette@bellsouth.net.

4. St. Mark's Bookstore

4149 Oxford Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32210

Over the past few months, the St. Mark's Bookstore has undergone an extensive renovation and reorganization. Now a part of Christian Formation at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the St. Mark's Bookstore is run by Director of Lay Ministry Melony Hainline, and Director of Christian Formation Laura Mann Magevney. The bookstore is staffed entirely by volunteers so that all of the profits are given to the missions of the church. Melony is the volunteer coordinator while Laura trains the volunteers.

Part of the role of the bookstore is to help visitors build a relationship with God.

This bookstore features a large variety of Bibles, church supplies, liturgical calendars and unique spiritual gifts for all occasions. There is a section specifically for children with books for all ages and an assortment of precious toys. The St. Mark's Bookstore also offers opportunities for Bible studies or community meetings in its second-floor meeting room. Additionally, there is a cute canteen on the first floor where you will find after-school refreshments specifically for youth who attend St. Mark's Day School. Sometimes, you'll even find a student or two behind the counter helping out. Attention St. Mark's Day School parents - this bookstore carries colorful school-branded apparel for students. Sales proceeds support multiple non-profits and people in need.

There are exciting plans to build a deck behind the bookstore in order to create a space for the church and school communities to sit and relax under the trees. When finished, it will be a perfect spot to enjoy nature, and for conversations about faith to flourish.
